In 3d06 it runs 15.3k with 4ghz quad, I was looking at Hardware canucks and their 9800gtx was on a 3.5ghz quad with DDR3 vs. my DDR2 rig. it scored 14.7k, I am still in testing, more info soon.

What's the logic behind ATI waiting until the reported launch date of June 25 when as we can see there are some HD 4850 cards available? Can it be it's going to take 12 more days to ramp up production. They should at least let the reviews be published the same time as there competition.

This is amazing. They seem to have caught nVidia with their pants down... I can't wait to see the performance of the midrange (aka 4650/4670) cards. Could they have similar performance to the HD3850 at less power consumption than the HD3650/3670? O_O

this is pretty standard policy to not announce too early, they need to make lots of cards to stock up the shelves, if they don't people accuse them of paper launching. especially important when you consider the low price. these cards will have no problem selling. They want to make sure they are fully available when they launch.

Thaks for all the nice comments, as for x-fire with 3xxx series:Unfortunately I tried the 3870X2 and it did not work. Possibly later with other drivers but for now I would have to say no. I think it is purposefully done because of the different architecture and the performance hit associated with pairing a faster card and a slower one.

It is capable of running crysis at 1680 x 1050 in dx10 with settings on high, frames rarely dip below 30 and the game actually feels smooth, quite an accomplishment in a single slot mid range card especially at this price point. The driver installations were simply and straightforward as were the packaging and accessories. This is a serious company and with a Lifetime Warranty to boot. That is something lacking with most board partners today.

It is not the card that is meant to compete with the GTX 280.( prices on the GTX 280 are more than three times as much), will two 4850\'s beat a GTX 280?.....stay tuned here and find out!! I have a suprise for You FX shoppers. The ultra card from ATI will be the 4870x2, which will be carried on FX As soon as it is available. the midrange segment that this card is in includes the 9800 and 8800gts. It can hold it\'s own against the competitions cards. from what has been said by owners of the other cards it is as fast or faster depending on which games you are playing or plan to play. And it includes DX10.1 which the Nvidia cards do not support at this time.

If I can get my hands on some 4870's then yes, I would love to test them, and yes, crossfire is going to be tested wed. evening. from what I have seen from as ingle card at low clocks, two should be a vey swet performance/price combination, I am estimating 32k in 05 overclocked easy enough. and playable crysis at 1920 x 1200 4xaa but only testing the real cards will determine that.

Got some crossfire results. same settings as the original review at XtremeSystems (4ghz quad) single card 05 in vista ultimate was 20,254 crossfire score 25,562. vantage single card was P7444, with crossfire 4850's 10,684. very nice cards for the price.

This card sclales nicely with crossfire. I ran the new 8.6 cats last night and put the cards thru the standard 3dmark runs. the 05 run showed 43% inprovement as did the vantage score. going from 7444 to well over 10k. So far during the limited testing time it seems the microstuttering is gone at least in the games i used to have it in. the crossfire seems to work much more fluidly in this generation than the 3xxx. I can only imagine future drivers will take this even further.

Just a note to clear the air. AT THIS TIME YOU CANNOT CROSSFIRE 3XXX SERIES WITH 4XXX SERIES. it may be possible in the future but as ATI has announced, the family of GPU must be the same, in simple terms, the first number must match. you can use the 4850 with the 4870 and the 3850 with a 3870. but you CANNOT use 3850 and a 4850 together in crossfire mode.
